Cultural differentiation – Reaction on the unexpected

A great concept, a great website, and I am sure, a great book. Frank Möser has focused on one of the fascinating aspects of cultural differentiation:

How do we react to the unexpected, the unplanned, the unbearable?

What is the difference between “C’est la vie”, “it is what it is”, “s**t happens” “So ist das Leben”, and a dozen other similar phrases, and Shoganai? They all can be roughly translated as having the same meaning, but clearly, culturally, they are very different. I have some observations of my own based on fifty years of international travel, but perhaps others might share their thoughts.
